Automobile Repairs

repair bill on vehicle windshield

You can save money when your car needs a new part by asking for a used or reconditioned part.  It is not hard to find these parts.  Automobile salvage yards take the working parts out of cars so they can sell them to repair shops.

If you cannot locate a used part, try a store that just sells parts.  If they have one for your car, they are usually less money than the parts sold to you by a car dealer repair shop.

Here are some additional frugal tips to repair your vehicle.

- Find a good honest mechanic by asking your friends and neighbors for a reference.
- Make sure your mechanic is certified and has a good reputation
- Ask if your mechanic bills by the "book rate" or the actual time to fix your vehicle.
- Keep up your car maintenance to avoid repairs.
- Keep a record of the work done on your car.  Have your mechanic review it in case you have overlooked needed maintenance and can do it now for less money.
