Banking: Overdraft Protection

checkbook

If you bounce a check, you will be charged a hefty fee.  Save money on this possibility by having overdraft protection on your checking account.  Many banks offer it for free, but you have to sign up for it.

Here are some other ways to save money on banking fees.

- Link your savings account to your checking account.  If your check goes over the amount in your checking account, have them debit your savings account.

- Try to always keep a little extra money in your checking account.  Call it your rainy day fund.  Normally, it wastes money, but until interest rates rise, it doesn't matter.

- Go all cash when possible.  Avoid debit card and credit card fees. You will also spend less
money when you use paper money.
