Bill Pay Bandits
by Nikki Willhite

"Bill Pay Bandits" - sort of a catchy phrase. It's a
little harsh, but seems appropriate to my bank and it's logo.
First let me say that everyone, including myself, loves billpay. It saves time and postage. Billpay is
wonderful....unless you make a mistake.
I got in a hurry one day, and accidentally sent a very large payment to the
wrong place.
You would think this would be an easy fix. You just call up your
bank, or the place you sent the money in error, and they just
send the money back the other way.
Without going into a saga of weeks of time on the telephone,
being passed around from person to person, misinformation and dropped
calls, let me just say that it took me over 2 months to finally have this money
returned to my bank account.
I was not ignorant as to what had happened either. After a
few calls I knew where the money was erroneously sent, had the date it was sent,
and the number of the transaction. Yet I could not get the money refunded to my
checking account.
Kudos to the financial institution who finally pinned my bank
down, and made them return the funds.
Moral of this story - don't get in a hurry when using billpay.
Make a mistake, and it can cause you weeks of aggravation, loss of time, and
ruin your budgeting. Also, if you haven't already done so, you may want to
join a credit union.
