Clutter Bunnies

by Nikki Willhite

What is it about clutter, anyway?  Clutter multiplies like little bunnies!  Clutter grows at a faster rate than NCIS reruns on my DVR.   DiNozzo and Gibbs I like to look at.  Clutter....not so much.

You would think that clutter has a standing invitation to enter my house at will.  It is always coming in the door.  It comes in the mail.  It comes in the packaging of items I buy.  It comes with changing tastes.  It shows its ugly face in the desire to have more....and more...and more.

Sometimes clutter results from replacing old or broken items and not getting rid of the damaged piece of goods.  Clutter comes from the insecurity of holding on to things  - just in case.

Finally, clutter comes from laziness.  Sometimes it is just too difficult or time consuming to take out the trash.

SO WHAT CAN WE DO TO REDUCE THE CLUTTER IN OUR HOMES? HERE ARE SOME IDEAS:

- Set a designated time to work on organizing your home each week.

-  If you don't use something in a year, get rid of it.

 - Don't keep 3 sizes of clothing in your closet.  Maintain a constant weight.

- Do not buy things you do not NEED.

- Never go empty handed when you visit a thrift store. Something in...something out.

- Do not become emotionally attached to material items.

- Be vigilant about your priorities with money and learn to like saving it more than
  spending it.

- Remember that clutter is still clutter, whether it is organized or not.

If you think you have a clutter problem, do something about it now.  People with addictions have to take the first step to become addicts.  You never become addicted to smoking if you never pick up a cigarette.  You never become a hoarder if you don't buy items you don't use.

Take a look around your home, and make sure you are not collecting bunnies.  Your wallet will thank you.
