Be careful what you buy with your money. Many of the things that we buy become
bad decisions - because of changes in
technology, and because of our changing taste as we get older.
There was a time when having a set of encyclopedias in your living
room was a status symbol. Encyclopedias were expensive. Often
they were purchased one book at a time. If they were purchased
as a set, it was usually on credit, and it took several years to
pay off the bill. Now, with the Internet, encyclopedias are rarely
used.
At one time I collecting used books. After several years, my book
collection become of no worth to me. First of all, my interests
changed, and I no longer wanted to read the books I had
purchased. Then my eyes got worse, and I needed larger print.
Then came the Kindle. I could enlarge the print and I loved the convenience.
The Kindle now saves me time and money, as I can go online and download books
from the library.
There are many things that become outdated or end up not wanted.
How many people do you know that have large VHS move
collections... or worse yet, movies recorded in the beta format? How about data collections on floppy disc drives?
Don't go overboard buying items that you may grow tired of, or that will
eventually be discarded. We can't see into the future, but we all know that the
only thing that doesn't change is change itself.
Think ahead and reign in excess spending. If you save now, when
something comes along later that you really want....you will have the
money to buy it.
