Clutterers' believe that everything they have is necessary to live and therefore cannot be thrown away. Below are several reasons why this is a problem. See if you fall into one of these five categories to answer the question why you live in clutter.

Many people feel happier with more stuff. They think the more stuff they have the happier they'll be.

Some people can't let go of memories, painful or pleasant. They keep pictures and articles of clothing that reminds them of the past.

Some people have an insatiable appetite for shopping. They will buy things on sale, just because they're on sale, and not see those items again for years.

If your home is cluttered chances are your life is cluttered and that includes financial clutter.

Many times there's an underlying root cause that you've buried and aren't willing to face. These issues could have happened to you years ago but you won't forget.

Let's start to untangle the top 5 reasons you live in clutter.

First reason you live in clutter is stuff. Some people don't feel whole unless they're surrounded with stuff. Sometimes it doesn't matter what the stuff is. People relate stuff with happiness. The problem with that is you'll never have enough stuff. Happiness has nothing to do with the clutter that's surrounding you.

Next, a deep memory, painful or pleasant is one reason people hold on to stuff. People believe they can relive those moments by just looking at or touching a picture or article of clothing. That's considered living in the past. If your mind is living in the past, you will miss the future.

Another reason why you live in clutter is because you're a shopaholic. You are constantly looking to buy things on sale, just because they're on sale. You probably don't even need half the things you purchased. Those items are put in a closet or in several piles of other sale items and not seen again for years.

If your home is cluttered chances are your life is cluttered and that includes financial clutter. If you clean up the clutter you live with, your financial life will improve. Basically, a cluttered home means a cluttered life.

And finally, painful childhood memories can be the underlying root cause that keeps you paralyzed. Life is so short it seems mandatory to live in the present and deal with your pain. Have someone you trust help you to learn that this part of you life is history.
