Fabric Softener

fabric softener

Save money on fabric softener with sponges.  Keep a bucket, up high, near your laundry filled with a couple quarts of water, 1/2 cup of fabric softener, and a few sponges.  Put one of the sponges in with each load of laundry.  When you are done with the wash cycle, return them to the bucket.

You can also make fabric softener more thrift friendly by combining it with vinegar.  Mix them at a ratio of 4:1 (vinegar to fabric softener).  Add approximately 1/4 cup with each load of wash.

Here are some more frugal tips to help money on fabric softener.

- Wet a washcloth with several tablespoons of fabric softener.  Put that in the dryer.  Add more softener as needed on the same cloth for additional loads.
- Use less than specified on the bottle of retail fabric softener.
- Dilute fabric softener with water.
- Put it in a spray bottle, and spray it directly on your clothing.
- Use plain vinegar.
- Use a sheet of balled up aluminum foil.
