Save money buying fresh fruit by choosing the appropriate sized fruit. Fruit is sold by the pound.  Buy large pieces of fruit for making pies, and more thrift friendly smaller sizes for snacking.

Here are a couple frugal fruit salad recipes.

Fruity Waldorf Salad

Ingredients

3/4 cup mayonnaise or Miracle Whip
1 Tbsp orange juice
1 stalk celery, diced
1 small pear, diced
1 small eating apple, diced
1/8 cup chopped pecans
lettuce

Mix together the mayo and orange juice.  Set aside.

Cut up the celery, pear, and apple. Do the apple last, so it doesn't have time to turn brown.

Pour the mayo mixture over the fruit, and toss. Serve over lettuce.

Grape Fruit Salad

Ingredients

1 cup seedless grapes
1 cup cooking apples (tart), diced
1 tsp lemon juice
1 cup canned Mandarin oranges
1 cup small marshmallows
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup whipping cream

Mix apples and lemon juice. Mix in grapes, oranges, marshmallows and nuts.

Add the sugar to the whipping cream..  Fold mixture into the fruit salad. Chill.
