Frugal and thrifty people make their furniture last as long
as possible. There are many ways to keep furniture looking good. The
most important thing for wood furniture is to keep it dry and keep it protected
Water is any enemy to wood. It will
cause it to warp. Do not put fish tanks or water features on wood unless
you put something on top of the wood to protect it.
If someone leaves a
glass of water on your table, and it leaves a water ring, apply a paste of
vegetable oil and salt. Let it sit for a couple of hours, and then try
rubbing it with a soft cloth.
The sun is an enemy to fabric. The sun fades fabrics.
Protect your upholstery from the direct rays of the sun.
Dust is another enemy to fabric. Vacuum your upholstery
with regularity. For spot protection, you can spray upholstery fabric with Scotchguard.
Here are additional frugal tips to help you save money
- If you can't afford well-made
furniture, use patio furniture that can be repurposed when
done with it, or inexpensive used furniture that can be replaced.
- Be careful moving furniture.
Lift it up, and then set it down. We had some movers
placed our sofa in the truck and then pushed it down to the front.
- Don't let children stand or
jump on your furniture.
- Polish protects wood
