Frugal Beans
Beans
are a great frugal tool for the frugal homemaker. They are frugal, easily
obtained, full of protein and fiber, and can be cooked in a variety of ways.
There are many variety of beans, which are actually seeds. Some of the
more common beans are navy beans, pinto beans, kidney beans, garbanzo beans, and
black beans. Refried beans are usually made from pinto beans. You
can also buy gourmet beans, which are small and flavorful.
There is a bean for everyone. You just have to find it. You have
to like the flavor and the consistency. I love kidney beans. When I
make a bean dish, the majority of the beans are kidney beans. However, I
will not even eat kidney beans out of a can. Beans that come out of cans
are waterlogged and bloated. I use dry beans only.
You can add lentils, split beans, and other grains to bean dishes to make
them flavorful and more nutritious. I also like to add vegetables, both
fresh and dehydrated.
If you want to go frugal, go beans. Find the beans you like, and a
sauce you like. You will save money and you will improve your health.

beans. Use the search box at the top of the page to find many
more frugal recipes for beans.
When times were tough, homemakers
kept a pot of beans on the back burner to feed hungry family members. The
more you eat beans, the more you like them.
