Tips
Shopping
Inkjet Cartridges - I think we all know that printers are sold cheap
so that the companies can make their money from outrageous prices for inkjet
cartridges. Make printer ink last as long as possible. Change your printer
setting to the draft or econofast setting when possible. Also, be sure and print
something every week so that your ink flows smoothly and doesn't dry up. Also,
before you print anything from your computer, always scroll down and see how
many pages it is going to take. Or use the "Print Preview" button. You may find
that you don't need to print all the pages (like with bank statements), of that
if you use a smaller font you can use less paper.
Challenges
Broken CD's - If you have a CD that is scratched and giving you
problems, try cleaning it with rubbing alcohol. Pour some on a soft cloth, and
then run the cloth back and forth from the center of the CD to the outer edge
until the scratches are gone.
Cleaning - I'm sure you've noticed that electronics seem to be magnets
for dust. So save time and energy by cleaning them with something that is also a
magnet for dust, and will remove it quickly and thoroughly. Use old dryer
sheets. You can throw them away after you dust. You aren't wasting paper towels,
and you don't have to clean them like rags. Just be sure not to clean sensitive
computer or television screens with them.
Installing New Software - Installing new software on a computer can be
a breeze, or it can lead to wide-eyed stares of frustration. Before you install
new software on your computer, anticipate possible problems. Always read the
"updated file" that comes with your program - usually called the "readme" file.
Then go to the webpage of the manufacturer and look up the program you are
planning on installing. If there are known problems, it will tell you how to fix
them and give you links to "patches" or additional files you need to download so
as not to have problems. You can save yourself a lot of aggravation and even a
computer crash by taking the time to check this information.
Water Spills - If you should spill water on your keyboard, here is
what to do. Immediately turn off the computer Do not try and use the keyboard to
see if it is working. Unplug the keyboard and turn it upside down. Don't shake
it. Just let it sit upside down, drain, and dry for 24 hours. Then see if it
works.
Google It - When you have a problem of any kind, whether it may
household maintenance, health or with your children, make good use of the
Internet. Just Google your problem. There is a wealth of information on the
Internet. I think sometimes we don't think about how much time or energy we can
save if we look for help, or how much we can learn.
Misc
Bundle Your Services - When possible, bundle your services, or get them
all from the same carrier. We changed our Internet, television, and phone
service to the same company and we saved quite a bit of money. |
