Tips

Gifts for Teachers- Teachers love supplies for their classroom. One of the most appreciated gifts is a package of items they use every day, and need replacing. Some ideas are colored pencils, marking pens, colored chalk, paper clips, pencils and erasers. Another things to consider during the "Back to School" sales.

Higher Education - Check out a 529 college saving plan.  You pay no taxes, so your money grows.  Anyone can contribute to this account.  Let your family know, and that contributions to this plan are appreciated as birthday presents.

Library - Make good use of that public library that you support with you property taxes. Check out everything that they offer. Libraries are more than books. These are some of the things the libraries offer in my area:

Books
Magazines
Newspapers
Music
Videos and DVDs
Activities for kids
Classes and Workshops for adults
Coupons
Community Event Calendars and more!

In certain areas you may even be able to borrow art for your home. Find your library's website, and checkout everything they have to offer. The website is also helpful if they let you renew items online.

Music - If your child wants to play an instrument in school, it is cheaper in the long run to purchase a used instrument than to rent one. Check out Craig's list and the classified ads. When they are done with it, you should be able to sell it for the same price you paid for it.
