Frugal Feng Shui
by Nikki Willhite
I will admit that I have my share of skepticism when it comes to
feng shui. However, I like to keep an open mind to new ideas, and
I don't want to offend anyone and the things they believe.
I purchased a "dummies book" for Feng Shui several years ago, and
found it quite interesting.
The concept of people and things having energy, and keeping that
energy positive is very important in feng shui. I am not so quick to
dismiss it.
Several years ago I accompanied a friend of mine to divorce
court. I will never forget walking into that courthouse room. It
was a big room, and it was filled with people. No one was
saying a word, and yet the tension and ill-will in that room was
so thick you could have cut it with a knife. I guess I would have
to say that there was a lot of negative energy in that room.
I once saw a woman getting rid of the negative energy in a room
by opening the windows, and then walking around clapping. It seemed rather odd to me at the time, but in thinking back to that courthouse
room, I have to wonder if when all the people left that room, the negative energy would remain behind.
Opening the windows
and clapping to remove it doesn't seem so far fetched to me.
I use to have a job where I entered into the homes of people I did not
know. As soon as you stepped into the home, you could just feel whether
it was a happy home, or if the people there had problems. It wasn't
anything visual, it was just a feeling. Again, could that be the
energy of the people in the home?
Assuming we all do carry energy around with us, what does feng shui
teach us that could be helpful to our lives, and be applied to our families
and our money?
HERE ARE 3 THINGS TO CONSIDER
- Feng Shui teaches that the kitchen is the heart of the home. The stove is
considered the heart of the kitchen. If you want positive
energy in your home, you need to keep your stove clean. Lesson #1 - Keep your home cleaner.
-
Since we all have energy fields, when we bring bad emotions or feelings
into our home, they will affect the atmosphere in our home. We need
to leave negativity at the door, and keep our thoughts positive when
at home. Lesson #2 - Make your children feel happier and more secure with your
demeanor.
-
Positive energy is paramount in feng shui. Having too many items in your
home blocks the flow of energy. Rooms should feel spacious and open,
and clutter must be avoided. Lesson #3 - Less is more. Buy fewer items, and save more money.
Let's see- if I follow the above 3 feng shui principles, I will have a
cleaner home, a happier family, and more money. Not so bad!
Now where did I put that dummies book? Didn't I spot something
in an upcoming chapter about the merits of husbands making
chocolate chip cookies?
