New Year's Day

New Year Resolutions - Be sure to make at least one financial goal for the New Year. Remember, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail." This is another saying - "Expenses rise to meet income". That couldn't be more true. There is ALWAYS something else to buy. If you want to save money, don't make it easy to spend money. Either have money taken out of your paycheck and put into a savings plan, or have your bank automatically transfer money every week from your checking account into your savings account. You can learn to live on less- when you have to do it.

New Year Resolutions - Many of us have made New Year Resolutions. Sometimes we make too many of them. One solid resolution is worth a lot of little ones you forget about. The biggest money saving resolution you can make this year, for many, would be concerning food. Don't waste any. Buy what you eat, and then use it. Be smart about making and achieving your goals this year. Just make them for 3 months, and make them very specific.

New Year Resolutions and Goals - Start out with a goal of 3 months. If you can make it that long, it will probably become a habit. Be sure and make them specific. Saying, for instance, that you are going to lose weight is not nearly as effective as saying you will not eat after 8:00 pm. That is an action plan, and realistic.

New Year's Eve - There are a lot of ways to celebrate New Year's Eve. Here's one tradition I really like. Have an open house that evening. Invite your friends. They can drop in and stay the evening, waiting until midnight, or just visit for a short time if they have other plans or need to get home. It makes others feel good to be invited out on New Year's Eve. For your part, you get to stay home and just enjoy the company of good friends. The only expense is some finger food.

Halloween

Costumes - Be sure and check out the thrift stores in October.  They usually have a selection of costumes and other items appropriate for Halloween.

Face Paint - If your kids want to paint their faces for Halloween, here is an easy way to do it. Mix food coloring with shortening. Warm the shortening first in the microwave (not too hot), and then mix together.

Misc

Gifts and Wrapping - Keep a supply in your home of gift wrapping paper, ribbons and bows, note and greeting cards.  Buy as much as you can on sale.  It will always be handy when you want to give an unexpected present, as well as your regularly scheduled gifts.
