Make Lists -
Make two lists. The first one is for the things you want in a home, and
the things that would be nice, but you could do without. The second list
should be a checklist to check the age of the furnace, water heater, etc. Buy
with both your heart and your head.
Plumbing -
If you are in the market for a new home, be sure and check the water pressure.
All galvanized pipes become corroded over time, and when you turn on the faucets
inside your home, you will only get a tiny stream of water. It costs a lot of
money to fix the pipes. There is no reason to turn the water off when your home
is on the market, even if it is vacant. That is a "red flag" that there may be
problems
Pre-Qualification - Always have your financing in order, and be
qualified for the homes you look at so that your offers will be taken seriously.
Price Points - Don't start comparing apples with oranges. Find your
price point, and stick with it.
Revisit - Always visit a home a different time of the day. You may
be surprised at what is going on the neighborhood at a different hour.
