 Tips

Food

If you make your own dog food, 1/3 of the product should be from protein (dairy or meat), and the rest from vegetables and grains.  Here is a an example of a healthy recipe:

Ingredients

6 cups water
1 lb ground turkey
2 cups brown rice
1 package frozen broccoli
1/2 cup cauliflower
1/2 cup carrots

Cook 30 minutes, cool, and refrigerate

Health Care

Discounted Services -  Check out your local humane society to see what services they offer for your dogs and cats. You can often find discounted rates on checkups, shots, and medications.

Exercise - Be sure your dog gets lots of exercise and don't get heavy . Dogs get sick like people.  My sister gets up at 6:00 AM every day to give her dog shots for diabetes.

Medical Insurance - Dogs are prone to accidents. If you are very fond of your dog, you may wish to get medical insurance.

Vaccinations - Pets are expensive.  If you take on the responsibility of a pet, don't neglect getting them vaccinated or protecting them from parasites.
