Frugal Sleeping Clothing
by Nikki Willhite
Most people want to be comfortable when they are
sleeping. This usually involves loose clothing.
Some people cannot wear flannel to bed because
they get too hot when they sleep. Nylon tricot is often used for
nightgowns because it is so light. Nylon fiber doesn't breathe, but there
is usually not enough fabric for it to be a problem.
If you are turning your heat down at night to
save money, flannel or cotton clothing is a good option. Girls and women
can find these items in pajamas and nightgowns. If you home is drafty, you
can add a sweatshirt or other loose fitting garment. Or you can sleep in
your sweats.
Layering is a good way to stay warm, and a good
use for items you no longer want to wear during the day.
Children can wear t-shirts to bed, and usually
stay warm. Many families buy or pass down oversized t-shirts to children
for sleeping.
All knit clothing stretches. One of the
most frugal clothing strategies for sleeping is just to repurpose worn knit
items for bed.
What isn't frugal (for women) is buying silk
pajamas, or lace trimmed nightgowns with matching robes for normal night wear.
Keep those special pieces to a minimum. Another good clothing strategy for
sleeping wear is to give these items as gifts for birthdays and other special
occasions.
Your daughters may want a special pair of pajamas
to wear when they go to slumber parties, but again, keep the "daily" wear items
more practical.
There are lots of beautiful items to buy in the
department stores, but if you need to be careful how you spend your money, think
about being more practical on an "every day" basis.
