Save money on pests in the garden by tilling your soil in the Fall.  Turning over the soil before the winter will allow the thrift friendly cold winter air to kill many insects and pests, as well as their nests.

Here are some more frugal tips to help control garden pests.

 

- Crushed eggshells deter slugs.  They don't like the sharp edges.
 
- Make homemade insecticides.  Bar soap, mixed with water and oil deters bugs.
 
- Mix plants that deter pests in your garden, such as mint, marigolds, garlic and basil.
 
- Set night traps for slugs. Use slug bait or beer.
