Gifts:  Unexpected

wrapped present

Save money on gifts for the unexpected visitor by keeping things in reserve that you can use yourself if you don't give them away.  Small Christmas decorations and Christmas music are frugal holiday gifts.  Gift cards work year round.

You can also put some batteries in a box with a note "Gift not included".  Everyone needs batteries, and if you don't give them away, you can use them yourself.

Here are some more frugal tips to save money on unexpected gifts.

- Pick up some generic gifts on sale after Christmas that you can keep for several years.  There are many items that make good gifts for everyone. Check out all the items on clearance.
- There are always clearance items after every holiday.  This is a good time to look for sales.
Items like chocolates can be put in the freeze and will keep until Christmas.
- Don't overlook garage sales for items that make great gifts that you could not afford new.
- Garage sales are a great source of books.  It is hard to go wrong with a cookbook.
