Grandmothers and Happy Hearts
by Nikki Willhite
How
many times have you heard people "put down" grandmothers? Even the very
word seems to conjure up old women, stuck in a time warp of bad clothing,
seriously outdated décor,
and limited activities.
How foolish the world! How sad that young kids today do
not rush at the chance to raise children, and one day experience the joy of
being a grandmother.
The truth is that there is no more beautiful word in the
English language than grandmother (and mother). I speak from personal
experience.
I was blessed to be able to raise 3 boys. Those
were happy times, filled with love, fun and adventure. Now my 3 sons are
married, all living close by, and with families of their own. Now, through
the power of multiplication, not only do I have 3 sons to love, but also 9
grandchildren. And when it comes to my grandchildren, I could not love
them any more than if they were my own children.
It can be hard for a women when children leave home.
However, life begins again when the grandchildren appear. My life is now
filled with family activities, birthday parties and soccer games. I feel
transported to Heaven each time one of these little ones puts their arms around
me in a loving hug, and tells me that they love me. The unconditional love
of the little ones is one of life's greatest blessings.
Don't listen to the world's lack of wisdom when it comes to
getting married and having children. Pets, albeit wonderful, will never
replace children. Raise your children to be your best friends, and your
life will be filled with more happiness and love then you could ever have
imagined.
You can still do other things. I run 4 websites, play the
piano, drool over fabric, quilt, eat cookies and brownies made by my faithful
companion (husband) of over 40 years now, download books to my Kindle, and
whatever else I feel like doing.
Value family relationships. Anticipate that happy time
when your heart will be filled with ever expanding love as you hear someone say
"Grandmother",..... and they mean you!
