18 Items Every Medicine Cabinet Needs

by Mark Etinger

Have you ever felt under the weather and wished that you had a certain item to ease your pain? Rather than schlep to the grocery store with a 100 degree fever, stock up on some items before you fall ill. Sure you don’t want a cluttered medicine cabinet, but there are a few items that no home should be without.

1.Multivitamin: This item may not stay in your medicine cabinet, but it sure is a good way to prevent getting sick.

2.Aspirin: Any slight pain or fever can be alleviated with a pill of this magical white compound.

3.Cough medicine: Almost every winter, there comes a point where you begin to have a cough or sniffle. Choose antitussives to relax your lungs during flu season.

4.Decongestants: A stuffy nose is a nuisance. Prevent this problem from getting worse as soon as it occurs.

5.Antihistamines: If you suffer from allergies at all, these are a must. Say goodbye to sneezing, red eyes and runny noses.

6.Cortisone: Any joint inflammation can be quelled with some cortisone application.

7.Gauze: Just in case there’s an accident, it helps to be prepared with some blood soakers.

8.Band-aids: From tiny cuts, to larger scrapes, these are a must. If you have kids, it helps to have different sized band-aids, and even if you don’t, it’s good to be prepared for all sizes of cuts.

9.Tweezers: For removing splinters, tweezers are a must. They also are perfect for removing stray hairs.

10.Thermometer: Determining fever is made easy when you use a thermometer.

11.Alcohol wipes: These are great for any kind of sterilization. Use them to clean your bathroom or your hands; pretty much any time you want to clean something and don’t have water and soap, these come in handy.

12.Disinfectant: Like alcohol wipes, a disinfectant kills microbial growth, and is a safe way to sanitize. Something that disinfects and helps to heal, like Neosporin, is a good idea. Run the wound under warm water with soap, then apply the disinfectant and cover with a breathable band-aid for quick soothing.

13.Adhesive tape: For a sprained ankle, or any other bone injury, this tape is very effective.

14.Antacids: From heartburn to bloating, antacids are a good way to counter stomach upset.

15.Anti-nausea: Dramamine is good for motion sickness, whether in a car or on a boat.

16.Condoms: If you’re sexually active, condoms are the cheapest, easiest, and best form of birth control.

17.Nux vomica: Great item to cure hangovers, and can easily reduce stress for those who are overworked.

18.Sunscreen: Prevent sunburns sure, but using sunscreen can also make your skin look younger, by working against the lines and wrinkles that the sun causes.

If you have all of these products, chances are you won’t need much else to look good and feel healthy. These items should give you plenty of comfort, and allow you to live with minimal pain and stress.
