Landscaping Tips and Guide to Improve Your Home Security
by Jared Wright
When you are looking to improve the security of your house, you
should not only be thinking about the additional devices you can install. You
can also explore making simple landscaping changes to your garden and yard to
enhance your security.
Burglars do not usually invade any property, but instead look for homes that
they think can be easily compromised by just disabling the security system.
Because landscaping is done for beauty and not for security, a well adorned lawn
and backyard will not arouse a suspicion that there are security devices in it.
Burglars are always on the lookout for lawns and yards with tall hedges. The
hedges may serve as a hiding place for them to spy on the things happening
inside the house. In addition, they can use the hedges as a place to wait while
household is still awake.
If tall hedges surround your property, it is time to trim them down in such
a way that your neighbors and anyone passing are visible from your door or
window. These can take away some of your privacy but it will also take away
places that an intruder can hide.
You can also install motion sensor devices in these hedges. This will let
you be aware if there is someone hiding in the hedges. The hedge can camouflage
the security device making it hard to be seen and avoid by burglars.
It is best to have plants near your window. This can hide the magnet sensors
and glass break sensors preventing burglars from tampering them. However, do not
let the plants grow tall enough that it can block the view of your window.
For two storey houses, see to it that there are no possible entry points in
the second floor. Trees that are near windows and verandas can be used as a
ladder for burglars. It is best to prune the tree branches that are near the
house.
In addition, you may install a wireless camera up the tree. Since the camera
is located high up in the tree, you can have a nice wide view of your lawn and
it cannot be easily detected. If you have a trellis that can support a man, you
may want to remove it because thieves can use it as a ladder.
