7 Places Where You Can Find Free Wood for Heating

You can use wood for heating from scrap woods, downed trees due to storm , construction sites, landfills, pallets, old & dying trees, and road logs.

Building fire through wood is one of the most inexpensive ways of generating heat and energy in your home or any outdoor activity. Wood is perfect for any camping trip as well if you want to lower the costs. If wood for burning is scarce in your area, get to know places where you can salvage free firewood.

Scrap wood

A woodworking shop in your locale may have leftover wood that they may longer need. These types of wood make good burning materials and you are offering them disposal services at the same time.

Downed trees due to storm

Strong winds can bring down old and rotten or even a firm tree. If any of these are found within your locale, you can assisting in clearing up this tree and the debris to make a free and good firewood.

Construction sites

It's a good place to find leftowver wood products or low-quality lumber that they cannot use. Wood scraps are mostly likely found here, but not all are good and safe for burning.

Landfills

You can scavenge parts or old furniture, pallets, crates, leftover building materials in the dumpsite or landfill which can make a good burning materials. Not all wood found here is safe to use thought. Most landfills permit removal of scrap wood materials to promote recycling.

Pallets can be easily disassembled and the wood can used as a firewood. Pallets are used as a container for some furniture and building materials nad most of the time retailers have a hard time trying to get rid of it so you can assist in disposing of them.

Old and dying trees

Dead or old and dying trees are everywhere, where in the urban areas or on the wild outdoors. These trees though are a hazard as some of them may not have firm trunks and it may cause injuries or damage to properties if the wind of other natural conditions brought the down. These type of trees are always left untouched until they eventually fall down, so you can ask permission to take it down. Assist the homeowners in removing these trees, especially the seniors. These wood are very efective burning agents.

Roads logs

In location where trees are mostly harvested for commercial uses, there are always small logs and twigs that may have dropped during transport. These wood may be suitable for making fire. However be sure not to pick up wood that is covered with sand or soil, this can damage your chainsaw.

It's important to take note of any hazards while obtaining free firewood though like nails and other extra staples on the recycled firewood that may damage your tools or can inflict injury. Recycling extra wood remains the best option.
