How to Make Homemade Febreze
by Nikki Willhite
Once again a cleaning product has come on the
market that is very easy to make at home. Febreze does a good job of
eliminating odors. You can spray it directly on fabrics, and it eliminates
bad or stale odors.
Not so well known is that it also removs odor
from wood. If you've ever bought a piece of odiferous furniture, one way
to help with the smell is to wipe it down with Febreze.
We recently purchased new dining room furniture.
It is all wood, except for the leather seats. It was quite a shock to open
the box and be assailed by the odor of the finish put on the wood. Most of
this odiferous furniture is made in China, and the chemicals are very strong.
It can take 8 months for the smell to dissipate.
If you have sensitivity to chemicals, in
particular benzene,
toluene and xylene, you do not want to purchase
this furniture. It is reasonably priced and well-made, but the odor can be
a serious problem for some people.
There are many recipes for Febreze, but the basic
ingredient is fabric softener. Here is the one I like:
1 cup fabric softener
1 cup vinegar
2 cups water
Just put
them in a spray bottle, and shake before using.
Keep
making homemade cleaning solutions, and save money.
