Treating Acne Effectively

by Susan Drake

Are you a teenager with acne? If so, you know how embarrassing it can be. You'd give anything for a clear complexion, instead of black heads and breakouts.

Maybe as an adult you developed acne for the first time. What? Acne in your 30s or 40s? How can this be?

Acne is one of the most frustrating skin conditions for teenagers and adults alike. Frantic acne sufferers try many products. They're desperate. Often times those products provide little or no results.

What's worse, untreated acne can lead to life-long scarring. Finding acne products that really work has been almost impossible. Until recently.

That's because the medical community and cosmetic companies are developing new revolutionary treatments for acne. What's interesting is that it's not just the ingredients, but the delivery systems that make the difference.

Let's back up and take a look at what causes acne bacteria. Basically it's due to dead skin cells that build up and clog follicles, thus producing excess oils which in turn creates bacteria-forming acne.

Although products containing benzoyl peroxide have been proven to kill the breakout causing acne bacteria, the reason they aren't effective is due to the size of the molecule incorporated. Some products containing benzoyl peroxide cannot penetrate the skin and merely sit the surface. Consequently they're ineffective.

New acne treatment products today use much smaller benzoyl peroxide molecules in liquid forms that penetrate deep into the follicles and kills acne at its root. This is great news for acne sufferers.

Untreated, acne can not only leave scarring and but unsightly dark spots know as hyper-pigmentation. Again, new clinically-proven acne products have been designed to treat hyper-pigmentation effectively. They not only help control acne but are effective in lightening dark and/or red spots while giving the skin an even, glowing appearance.

Men, women and teenagers will be delighted to know that they can find an array of acne-treating products available in different formulations based on their individual skin type. There are products designed for normal to oily skin and for normal to dry skin. Unlike the oily skin of many teenagers, mature acne sufferers often have very dry or sensitive skin.

In addition to using effective products, diet plays a role in acne control. Acne sufferers realize positive results by eating a plant-based, low fat diet.

An acne-fighting diet includes lots of fresh vegetables and fruits, especially those with a low glycemic index number. It includes grains such as bran, barley and oats. And it encourages drinking plenty of water, herbal teas and vegetable juices.

Those with acne should avoid sodas, which are a significant source of sugar, and fatty foods such as olives, avocadoes, seeds and nuts plus most oils. Additionally, studies show consuming large amounts of dairy products can also aggravate acne.

So if you want to get rid of blemishes and acne, invest in the newest, clinically proven products on the market that kill bacteria and treat pigmentation plus and eat a plant-based, low food diet. In combination, you should see positive results quickly and have the skin you've always wanted.
