Instruments: School

Save money on school instruments by purchasing used instruments instead of renting them.  Children often try out several different instruments when in school.  When you purchase them used, you can usually sell them for the same price so it doesn't cost you anything to own them.  If your child finds one he/she really likes, them you can purchase a new one.

Here are some more frugal tips to save money on school instruments.

- Do your research before you begin to look for an instrument and know the prices of new and used instruments so you will be in a position to negotiate.
- Try your local music store to see if you can buy pre-owned instruments.
- Check the classifieds, Craigslist, pawn shops and ebay for used instruments.
- Ask the school's music teacher for names of students who have decided not to continue playing their instrument, or see if he has some instruments he or the school will loan out.
