Ironing: Scorched Fabric

Show thrift by making every attempt to keep and care for your possessions as long as possible.  Sometimes you can accidently scorch a household linen or piece of clothing when you are ironing.

Sometimes this ruins the items.  Other times you may be able to remove the scorch marks.  If this happens to you, immediately put the item in ice water, being sure the scorch marks are totally submersed in the water.  Keep it there for a few days.  Then use a stain remover on the spot and wash the item.

Here are some more frugal tips to save money on scorched fabric.

- You can also try and remove the scorch mark by applying a a few drops of hydrogen peroxide followed by a few drops of ammonia.  Let it sit for several minutes, but do not let it dry. Rinse and wash.

- If nothing helps, remember you can recycle, repair and reuse.  Sleeves can be cut off, blouses shortened, fabric patched.  You can also use the good fabric for craft projects or quilting.
