The Many Uses for Newspapers
by Nikki Willhite
Most everyone deals with newspapers. Even if you don't pay for
a subscription, they are often delivered free to your door
so that you will read the ads.
I think we've all recycled and reused newspaper. We use it to
get the fire going in our fireplaces, and to protect our furniture
and floor when painting. We use it to line garbage cans, shelves,
and to wash our windows.
If our newspapers start piling up, we put them in the recycle bin,
where they will be picked up and others will recycle them.
HERE ARE JUST A FEW ADDITIONAL WAYS TO USE OUR NEWSPAPERS.
Saving Money
- One of the most important things for some people are the
coupons.
- Insulation from the cold. Roll it up and place it under doors or windows where
you have leaks.
- In addition to scrunching them up to start our fires, we can make fire logs
out of them, which burn a lot longer and help ignite big pieces of wood.
Kitchen
- They make cleanup easy for messy tasks, such as shredding
vegetables. Do your prep on top of the newspapers, and then just pick
it all up and throw it away.
- Use newspaper to wipe heavy grease from the oven before you clean it.
- You can dust high places with newspaper by making it into a roll, and cutting
one
end into strips.
Pets
- Litter boxes.
Clothing
- Put it in shoes to remove odors and dry them out.
- Put it in unused luggage to absorb odors.
Garden
- Put it in the garden to control weeds.
- Add it to the mulch pile.
