Pancake syrup does not cost a lot of money, but for the
thrift conscious, it is more frugal to make it from scratch. Buy a bottle
of pancake syrup, and then when it is empty, fill it with homemade syrup.
To make pancake syrup you need maple flavoring and brown sugar.
You use water and brown sugar in equal amounts. For each 1/2 cup of sugar
and water, use 1 tsp of maple flavoring. Bring the brown sugar and water
to a boil, and then simmer the liquid for 15 minutes. Remove from heat, and add
the maple flavoring.
You can also use apple pie filling to top pancakes, or sprinkle
them with powdered sugar.
