You show thrift when you buy items on sale. This includes food. Set aside some of your food budget to buy items when they go on sale. Make it a goal this year to build up your pantry. You will save money on food in the long run, both by purchasing the items at a discount, and by not having to run to the store when you run out of things. A well-stocked pantry is also a big help when you can't get to the store and have to "make-do" with what you have at home.
