Pipes may break if they freeze.  Make your pipes thrift friendly by keeping them from freezing.  Insulate pipes in crawl spaces, put Styrofoam insulating capes on outside spigots, and leave the water dripping in your sink during extreme cold snaps.

Here are some additional frugal tips to save money on frozen pipes.

 

- Thaw frozen pipes by pouring hot water over them.  Put a bucket under the pipe.
 
- Thaw frozen pipes heating them up with a blow dryer.
 
- Prevention is the best cure for frozen pipes.  Be especially mindful of pipes in attics, under the house, or against outside walls.
