You and Your Personal Protection Documents

by Nikki Willhite

Everyone needs documents to protect their future. Most people get around to making a will. However, less people set up a trust, or an Advanced Health Care Directive.

If you want to have a voice on your health care when you cannot speak, you need to have Advanced Health Care Directive.

You also want to be sure you can sell your home if you need to do it. If your spouse gets hurt or sick and goes into a nursing home, they may not be competent to sign papers. If their name is on the deed to your home, you are stuck.  It could cost you thousands of dollars in lawyers fees to make it possible.

If you watch Suze Orman on television, you know that for the last decade she has been telling everyone the importance of wills, trusts, power of attorneys and Advanced Health Care Directives.  It has been very frustrating for her that so many people call into her show and they do not have these documents in place.

A few weeks ago she pretty much yelled at everyone for not doing it. She also gave the password to download these documents from her site.

I think a lot of people sprung into action, because that site was bombed. My family made the decision to download all the documents, and it took several days to do it all, because the site was so busy.

What a great decision that was. Suze's instructions were so clear, and the documents were, as promised, state-of-the-art.  I thought it would be hard, but she made the the process incredibly easy.  It reminded me of computer tax programs, where you are told the information you need, and you just fill in the blanks.

After we printed up the documents, we got a couple witnesses, and went to our credit union for notary services.

Wow!  $2,500.00 worth of free state-of-the-art documents, a notary, and we are totally protected. And what did it cost us? Nothing. Not one penny.

Thank you Suze Orman! Thank you for caring about people, and for the protection that you have given to not only my family, but to hundreds of other people.  Thanks for all you do.

If you've been putting off getting these documents in place, just do it. Protect yourself and those you love.
