How do we help our children get
ready to learn in school? As you know, our children’s education begins at home.
There are many inexpensive and easy things to do at home, that will help make
learning fun. This will help them look forward to school.
Here are some of the things you can do:
-Let your children see you read, and read to them, and with them.
-Visit the library. Keep children’s books and magazines around the house.
-Keep pencils and paper, crayons, and washable markers handy. Use them yourself
for notes and grocery lists.
When they see you do it, they will want to try also.
-Teach children to do things for themselves rather than doing things for them.
It’s a lot quicker if you do it, but your children won't develop the self
confidence that comes from doing it themselves.
-Set limits on TV viewing. This will encourage other activities. When you do
watch television, make sure it is quality programming, and discuss it together.
-Praise your child whenever your can. Be sincere. Help them develop their self
esteem whenever possible.
Giving your child the love and
attention they need from you will give them a greater sense of security and
self-worth. This will help them as they face many new challenges when they start
school and other activities.
