Recycling: Packaging

mail package

Save money by recycling as much of the packaging as possible from the items sent to you in the mail. Styrofoam peanuts can be put in planters to frugally elevate the soil level.  Larger pieces of Styrofoam can be cut to size and put in packages you send to other people.

Bags of air can also be reused to cushion your packages.  Boxes can be broken down and stored for reuse.  Small packets of silica gel can be used in containers where you want to hold down rust, such as in tool boxes.  Anything reused is thrift friendly.

Here are some more frugal tips to save money recycling packaging material.

- The paper around packages can be recycled for craft projects.
- If your package comes wrapped in string, recycle the string.
- If you received a package with stamps, think about keeping them.  Stamp collecting is a very popular hobby.  They don't take up much room, and you may be glad you have them some day.
