Surprisingly Easy Ways to Control Your High Blood Pressure

by Javed Anwar

All of us know that elevated blood pressure is a very widespread problem across all countries. There are different types of high blood pressure but essential hypertension is most frequently found among the adult population. It is not associated with any particular cause and is generally linked to heredity and lifestyle. High blood pressure is one of the most lethal lifestyle diseases.

Many studies have shown that about 25 percent of the adult population suffers from hypertension and the bad news is that about one third of them are not even aware that they have high blood pressure. This condition is generally associated with many serious diseases like heart problems, strokes, kidney problems and failure of many organs in the body.

High blood pressure is usually difficult to detect in everyday life because its symptoms are very subtle and nonspecific. It can present as headaches and dizziness for example. The best way is to go to your doctor and ask for a BP check. If it is normal, you should recheck it every six months.

If you have high blood pressure, your first effort should be to control it without any medications with as natural methods as possible. Following are some of the ways to reduce your hypertension naturally:

1. You should have your weight maintained in the normal range. If you are over-weight, the chances of complications of hypertension are high. By reducing weight significantly you can actually bring the systolic pressure down to normal level if your blood pressure is of mild to moderate degree.

2. Do some physical exercises. If you do not have enough time, do whatever is possible. Some exercise is better than no exercise.

3. Reduce the salt intake in your diet. About 10 grams a day is used by the people generally. The average intake recommended is 5 grams per day. If you further reduce it to about 3 grams, it will definitely help control your blood pressure.

4. Change your eating habits. You must consume plenty of vegetables and fresh fruits. Have foods low in fat and take lean meat, chicken and fish. Eat fruits rich in potassium. It has been proved in many studies that potassium is quite effective to treat this condition. Garlic is also good for high blood pressure. It is better to take garlic supplements because the high beneficial doses of garlic cannot be consumed in your food only.

5. You should avoid caffeine. One cup of coffee a day is acceptable and normal. It is not considered to be good if it is more than that. Taking moderate quantity of red wine is also known to be good for hypertension.

6. Keeping away from stress, anxiety and loud noise also helps control the high blood pressure.

You must follow the advice given above and be in control of your body. Do not let hypertension steal away your quality of life.
