Clothing: School

There are two times of the year to save money buying clothing for school on sale.  The first one is to shop the "Back to School" sales.  The second is toward the end of the school year, when unsold clothing goes on clearance.

If you are very conservative, you may not want to purchase your children's school clothing until after the school year starts and your children can see what their classmates are wearing.  Even items purchased on sale are not frugal or thrift friendly if they don't want to wear them.

Here are some frugal tips to save money on school clothing.

- Children grow out of clothing so quickly, you can always find an abundance of good, used
clothing.  Shop the thrift stores and garage sales.
- Clothing for younger children is easier to make than clothing for teenagers.  If you can sew, pick a pattern with easy, classic lines, have them pick the fabric, and make a few pieces of clothing for them that will last a long time.
- Be sure and talk with your children about their clothing preferences.  Know their favorite colors.

Be sure that you can recognize items they will like so you feel confident buying something for them when they are not with you. Do some "window shopping" at the thrift store.  Find out what they like and dislike about clothing and write it down so you don't forget.
