Showers: Water

low flow shower head

Save money on water in the shower by installing low-flow shower heads.  Heating water can add up to 14 percent of our energy bill. After our furnace, heating water is what runs up our energy bill.  Low-flow shower heads are thrift friendly and reduce energy bills.

Here are some additional frugal tips to save money on showers.

- This may seem an extreme measure, but if you have someone who just refuses to give up long showers, turn off the hot water after they have been in the shower an appropriate time.
- Another alternative is to keep a timer in the bathroom, so your children know when it is time to get out of the shower.  If they don't do it, then you can turn off the hot water.
- Keep your soaps and shampoo conveniently located so you don't waste time trying to reach them.
