Storing Food

pantry

Save money on food keeping it as fresh as possible for as long as possible. Most dry goods should be placed in a cool and dry place.  Potatoes should also be kept in a dark place.  You can put potatoes in a paper bag to keep them dark.  Never store potatoes near onions.

Frugal footnotes:

Here are some additional frugal tips on storing food.

- Food needs to be sealed tightly to stay fresh.  Items for the freezer should be wrapped in freezer paper, or double wrapped in foil.

- Bags of chips, cookies, cereals and other grains can be kept tightly shut with an office binder clip, or for the frugal conscious, a clothespin.

- Check out the "stale date" of food before you buy it.  Bakery goods, in particular, can be much fresher at the back.
