If you open the windows on a still summer night, you might be able
to hear the click, click, click of knitting needles. Women are
once again making cosies. No, not cosies for the toaster, the
husband's golf clubs, or even rolls of toilet paper. These are
not your "grandmother's cosies." These are cosies for the new,
cutting edge Swiffer!
Yes, it is hard to believe, but people are so enamored with their
Swiffers that they are actually making removable, and washable cosies
for them. They are cute, but there are a lot of ways to make Swiffer
substitutes without knitting cozies.
HERE ARE SOME OF MY FAVORITE SWIFFER SUBSTITUTES
- For dusting some of the best fabrics are flannel, fleece, felt
and microfiber. Just cut a rectangle a little larger
than your swiffer base. If you can't get it to stick in
the holes, you can make it thicker by sewing several pieces
together, or you can attach it with rubber bands.
- You can purchase fabric on sale, or you can cut up old
clothing. Soft fabrics, like knits and velour work well
for dusting. Heavier fabrics like brushed corduroy work
well for scrubbing.
- Other items easily found that work well for
both dusting and mopping are washrags and diapers. You can
use either cloth or disposable diapers.
- If you are a quilter, you now have another use for those
little leftover pieces of warm and natural batting. They are
great for collecting dust. The polyester cotton blend of batting
works well for wet jobs.
If you like to recycle, you've got a great friend in the Swiffer. Keep that
swiffer frugal and thrift friendly.
