What do You Want?
by Jill Black
For many people the first thoughts will be for
unlimited supplies of money, the house of their dreams, the car of their choice
(or perhaps several cars), maybe even the luxury yacht and world travel to
exciting destinations anywhere but where you are now. Of course this will come
complete with a perfect soul mate to share it all with.
All over the world people are looking for the
elusive key that will provide them with all the wealth, health and happiness
that they can ever imagine.
It seems the quest to be all, and do all in life, is
on every ones lips these days as the most popular phrases of greeting seem to be
"and what have you been doing lately" or "what have you been up to" and for some
reason we happily respond with how we think we are measuring up on the scale of
wealth, health and happiness.
Why do we feel this need to compare ourselves to
what other people are doing? It has almost become like an epidemic of constant
comparing and checking to see if we still rate okay with our fellow human
beings, that we are worthy of having the privilege of being alive and allowed to
live amongst the rest of the population.
This article is not intended to help you compare
yourself with anyone else's definition of success or place your life on a rating
scale but rather to develop your own way of relating to the world with an inner
rating scale that no one else can ever compare to as each rating scale is
different through the endless combinations and variations that make up the
individual of varying thoughts and feelings.
Being the best you can be is all that really
matters. People tend to get so caught up in comparing themselves that they tend
to lead very negative lives that are not a fraction of what their lives could be
if only they had used their own inner scale and let the rest of the world use
whatever scale it chooses the judge or compare one life with another.
It is not easy to walk in accordance with your inner
beliefs especially at times when you seem to be walking a different route than
the people around.
Where do you start to be yourself? Right here and
right now it is time to take a good hard look at what it is that you think your
life is really about. Is it dictated by external events to which you respond? Or
is it a product of your own direction and will to get the things that mean the
most to you that will make up a really great life - your life - One that you can
look back on at the end of each day and know that you have done all that you can
that day as you drift happily off the sleep each night.
There has been much written about success and
motivation in the many self-help books available on the shelves but if you want
to be realistic just how much have they ever helped you. If they had been such a
help you would not be reading this article because you would be wealthy, healthy
and happy and certainly would not be spending you time going over old ground
that you had passed by some time in your past.
You would have your eyes firmly fixed on
accomplishing all that you can do today with a picture in your imagination of
how your actions would be building on yesterday for a better future tomorrow.
This is how life should be. Instead so many people wonder how they will even
make it through the day. So much to do, the bills need to be paid and when will
I ever have time to take up a hobby or in fact when will I have time to sit back
and truly relax. By truly relaxing I do not mean sitting in front of the TV or
Computer but to relax and have fun with wonderful people with whom you share
your life or to stimulate your mind with a good quality book that will advance
and increase the measure of your life.
You see it is always the little things that mean the
most in life. Improving a little at a time on what we have previously done
before is really what life is about as we strive to make life somehow better,
somehow more the way we truly want to spend our days and nights. A life filled
with beauty, good times, nice clothes, home, cars and anything else you may
desire that is on your mental shopping list that is currently labeled "One day
when ..."
Most of us have such a long one day when... that
seems to grow at a faster rate than wow that is another thing I have just got
that can be crossed off my list. It is normal and natural to want money for the
possessions and tools we can buy that will make life better. In fact it is the
abnormal person who would not desire to have "more of..." anything than they
currently have.
There is no need to dwell on the negative things
that may be happening in your life. In fact the sooner you dismiss them from
your mind the faster you will become all that you say you want to become.
When you begin to think only about the positive
aspects of life - prosperity and the abundance - and mix this with love and
appreciation you can attain the heights of any aspirations you have in any area
of life.
